Where each one is the better pick
MyFitnessPal
The biggest food database, including restaurant dishes, a free version, Android and web, and connections to 40+ devices. Best if you want to search and weigh exact foods, or you don't want to pay.
Cal AI
Photo-first and quick to start, on iPhone and Android, often at a lower yearly price. Best if you mainly want to snap meals and see the numbers.
MacroFactor
A well-known adaptive algorithm that re-estimates your expenditure every week, a verified food database, detailed micronutrients, and Android. Best if you want precise data and automatic weekly adjustments.
Doubles
Best if you already work out, would rather say or snap food than search for it, and want a partner that remembers your days, answers questions like "what should I order here?", and keeps you to two numbers: calories and protein.
Pick something else if
- You use Android or want to log on the web. Doubles is iPhone only for now.
- You want a free tracker. Doubles has a 7-day free trial, then it's paid.
- You want to track lots of micronutrients. Doubles covers calories and protein first, plus carbs, fat and fiber.
- You want workout programming. Doubles counts your workouts but doesn't plan them.
